THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION

Confirmation perfects Baptismal grace; it is the sacrament which gives the Holy Spirit in order to root us more deeply in the divine filiation, incorporate us more firmly into Christ, strengthen our bond with the Church, associate us more closely with her mission, and help us bear witness to the Christian faith in words accompanied by deeds. (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1316)

Youth Confirmation

In the Diocese of Richmond, the Sacrament of Confirmation is received by youth who are in at least the 10th grade of high school and are 15 years of age. Preparation is done via coordination with Fr. Eric and using materials provided by the parish. Parents who feel their child or teen is ready for Confirmation should meet with Fr. Eric and discuss the timeline for reception of the sacrament. Call Lydia St. Peter at 276-988-4626 to set up a meeting.

Adult Confirmation

Baptized adults who are at least 18 years of age and have received their First Eucharist are given Confirmation based on their level of preparation. Adults who have been away from an active life of faith for some time may need to take part in a longer process of preparation. The type of program most appropriate for each individual is determined by meeting with Fr. Eric and/or with our RCIA coordinator, Ralph Shawver. Call Lydia St. Peter at 276-988-4626 to set up a meeting with Fr. Eric and Ralph.
